UIC classroom . window tiles

Red Glow 1500 was invited to join the University of Illinois at Chicago classroom re-design effort in partnership with Catalyst Ranch Design. Two architectural elements were comissioned for the Lincoln Hall Room #214 phase; eight custom glass tiles and a wall clock.

The image above shows the complete series of tiles. Exhibiting a rich color pallet of red, purple, lavender, amber, powder blue and gold to coordinate with the Turkish inspired Art Nouveau design scheme. These tiles were developed to be installed in the windows with the natural outside light transmitting through.

The curvy leaf shape compliments the mandalas painted on the radiator. The bird is in company with the red outline drawings of birds scattering the wall and rear blackboard. The flower is representative of the painting on the Teacher's desk. The two center tiles mimic the tall trees on the inside of the classroom door.
