Glass
Fusing is an ancient art where separate pieces of glass melt into
one continuous flow of glass at the temperature of 1500°F.
Nearly seven
years ago, Leah Bohannon began focusing her artistic career on Glass
Fusing. She gained a solid foundation about the production process
while taking classes at a neighborhood arts center in Chicago and
the moment her first pieces were pulled from the kiln, she knew
she wanted to pursue Glass Fusing as a full-time artist. |
|
Bohannon, a long-time designer, photographer, and
graphic artist, found her second home in Chicago after leaving her
native St. Louis. After eight years of consulting and management
with a Fortune 500 company, she left her career as a financial consultant
to pursue her lifelong goal of establishing a studio and earning
a living from her art.
Since
2002 she has been Glass Fusing independently in her Chicago studio,
Red Glow 1500, named for the temperature in Fahrenheit at which
glass loses all other color and glows bright red during the fusing
process.
The Red Glow
1500 product line is comprised of one of a kind candle
holders, centerpieces,
window hangings, lightboxes,
sushi sets, and ashtrays
handmade during a time of creative energy and artistic exploration.
The artist feels personally connected to each piece, as each one
represents her frame of mind at the time of its creation. Her distinct,
yet subtle, combinations of opaque and transparent glass have caught
even the eyes of Glass Fusing aficionados.
Bohannon's line
will soon include clocks (UIC
classroom), custom tile
(UIC classroom), chandeliers
and other decorative architectural
elements.
